Flow Sensor Test Equipment
The client reqiured a custom test setup in which they could place their proprietary flow sensor and test its functionality. I designed a test setup in which they can place 9 of their flow sensors at a time. Flexible pipes were connected to the inlet and outlet of the sensors. The fluid connections would get supply from a surge tank in which water was pumped. The water then flows through a series of flow regulators and flow measurement devices to measure the flow through the flow sensor and compare the output of both to measure the accuracy of working of the sensor. The flow controls were mounted on an 80/20 frame which had sides made of Lexan for enclosure. The 80/20 frame was mounted on a pan which was in-turn mounted over 2 cabinets which enclose the electronics. This made the assembly mobile being on wheels. Designing the path of the pipes such that minimum length is used and no sharp bends are present to prevent damage to the plastic pipe, were the major challenges in this project.
